Carlo Rampazzi has been overseeing the interior design of Tschuggen Collection properties for more than 25 years. The Hotel Eden Roc was the first of the Collection on which the interior designer executed his craft; it was only fitting, therefore, that he should also mastermind the interior redesign of the rooms and suites during the renovation works of autumn/winter 2024/25. The philosophy behind Rampazzi’s design? To bring the surrounding Ticinese nature in, and tobestow a fresh sense of lightness and renewed vitality on the space through the use of light colours, airy fabrics and thoughtful material choices.
Switzerland’s only true beach resort
Located directly on the shores of Lake Maggiore, the Eden Roc is Switzerland’s only true beach resort. It is a place where the mountains of Ticino meet the shimmering blue of the lake; a place where, bathed in glorious sunshine, the water becomes as dazzling as the hotel’s 10,000 m2 Garden of Eden. Of course, this extraordinary haven on Lake Maggiore demanded a renovation of an equally exceptional nature: one defined by the masterful harmony of tradition, innovation and craftsmanship. The new, modernised Hotel Eden Roc calls to mind a graceful sailing yacht gliding gently over the ripples of Lake Maggiore. Elegant architecture shapes the character of the main building; in the guest rooms, sweeping windows and modern glass balustrades on the balconies invite the sparkling blue of the water in. Following the rooms’ renovation and complete redesign, the extraordinary views are complemented by a feel of contemporary interior elegance. The large windows and glass balconies flood the space with sunlight and inspire the feeling of floating above the surrounding nature.
Architect’s pencil meets artistic flair - the creative partnership of Fiorenzo Tresoldi & Carlo Rampazzi
At the helm of the renovation project were Ticinese architects Fiorenzo Tresoldi (exterior) and Carlo Rampazzi (interior), schoolday friends for whom the Hotel Eden Roc renovation marked their first collaborative project in Ascona. Architect Fiorenzo Tresoldi conceived of the new, modernised building as a graceful sailing yacht gliding gently over the ripples of Lake Maggiore. Generous use of glass elements – a modern glass façade, expansive windows and glass balconies – serve to exquisitely frame the hotel’s sweeping views of the lake.
Carlo Rampazzi sought to make the connection to nature similarly manifest in the interiors. As in the initial renovation phase of the Hotel Eden Roc two years prior, he embraced an understated, modern approach aimed at elegantly capturing the essence of southern Mediterranean living. The design of the new rooms centres on light, bright colours and airy fabrics that sway in the gentle lake air; also spotlighted are natural materials such as dark wood and glass.
