Marco Campanella is awarded his second Michelin star for his gourmet restaurants La Brezza.
Ascona (18 October 2022). Since summer 2018, Marco Campanella has been surprising the guests of the gourmet restaurant La Brezza in the Hotel Eden Roc with his creations. Now the up-and-coming talent has earned his second star - and twice over, once for La Brezza at the Hotel Eden Roc and also for the gourmet restaurant's winter branch in the mountains: at the Tschuggen Grand Hotel in Arosa.
"I congratulate Marco Campanella most warmly on this very well-deserved award! I personally appreciate his culinary creativity as much as his leadership qualities and his reserved modesty - these are the three factors that define him and his success," says Simon Spiller, General Manager of the Hotel Eden Roc.
In 2019, the up-and-coming talent was named "Discovery of the Year in Ticino" for the first time by the gastronomic guide GaultMillau. The first Michelin star followed a few months later. In 2020, Bilanz Hotelranking named him hotel chef of the year. Since March 2021, La Brezza at the Hotel Eden Roc can also boast 17 GaultMillau points. Now comes the second star for the German-Italian's successful concept.
Coming from a family of gastronomers, Campanella gained experience with the best chefs in Switzerland: for one year he honed his craft as chef de partie with star chef Andreas Caminada at Schloss Schauenstein (3 Michelin stars, 19 GaultMillau points). His mentor was then star chef Rolf Fliegauf, and before returning to Ticino Campanella worked for Caminada again for two seasons as sous chef in his restaurant Igniv in St. Moritz.
The German-born chef with Italian roots has a special relationship with Ticino and the Eden Roc: he already worked at the five-star Eden Roc hotel on Lake Maggiore in 2012, together with his brother Tommaso, who now runs two independent establishments in Ascona. Being close to his family is important to him and he draws strength from it for his work.
Marco Campanella has set himself the goal of never letting boredom arise on the plate. He achieves this with his unique creations - both in his regular seven-course menu and in the plant-based Moving Mountains variant, which has been served for just under a year. Marco Campanella's cuisine uses mainly local, regional products from Lake Maggiore or Vallemaggia. "I am overjoyed and happy to be able to pursue my passion at La Brezza and to be able to conjure up great creations for the guests that will inspire them. Thank you very much for the honour of a second Michelin star," Marco Campanella rejoices. After a successful summer on Lake Maggiore, Marco Campanella's team is now looking forward to the winter season in the Grisons mountains. La Brezza will open its doors again at the Tschuggen Grand Hotel from 09 December 2022.
