The Race for Nature, our centenary event, raised a total of CHF 355,795 in donations - well exceeding the originally planned sum of CHF 250,000 for nature conservation organisations!
The foundation stone for today's Tschuggen Collection was laid 100 years ago in Arosa. The anniversary was now duly celebrated - with the charity event Race for Nature, in Arosa. In the first Swiss premium hotel group to combine effective climate protection with the highest standards of the hotel industry, the conviction is shared that climate change and the protection of the environment are the most important challenges of our time. It seemed only right, therefore, for us to celebrate our 100th anniversary by taking a stand for environmental protection – in the hope that the pristine slopes and snow-covered mountains can be preserved for the generations and centuries to come.
Working under the patronage of the myclimate foundation, the Tschuggen Collection hosted a total of 16 forward-thinking companies including UBS, Ricola, ÖKK, BKW, Graubündner Kantonalbank, Die Mobiliar and Ringier Medien. Corporate teams battled it out in the Race for Nature on behalf of respected nature conservation organisations such as Protect our Winters, the Alpine Initiative, Aqua Viva, the Bruno Manser Fund and the Swiss Parks Network.
The teams’ efforts were expertly supported by superstars of the skiing world – Maria Walliser Anesini, Erika Reymond-Hess, Brigitte Oertli, Didier Cuche and Daniel Mahrer, to name a few – as well as by up-and-coming talent from the Arosa Ski Club. Alongside the charity ski race, the hotel group hosted an extensive programme of supporting events including an open-entry ski race for local residents, a gala dinner with charity auction and a range of workshops around environmental and climate issues. Most importantly, participating nature conversation organisations were given a platform to present their work and causes for the duration of the four-day event. Solutions-driven conversations with attendees played a central role.
Thanks to the enthusiastic support of attending companies and the commendable efforts of individual attendees, we achieved donations for the nature conservations organisations totalling CHF 355,795. This well exceeded our original target of CHF 250,000. In addition, discussions hosted around the event site and in the workshops have already resulted in new ventures with long-term impact, including a tree-planting campaign for school pupils in the Schanfigg/Arosa forest district. This is being organised with the expert support of the conservation organisation There-for-you.
