“In Dialogue with matter” – Hans-Peter Profunser at Casa Epper

This summer, Casa Epper becomes a stage for powerful art: In his evocative sandstone sculptures, Hans-Peter Profunser explores the fragile relationship between humankind and the environment - a theme that is both profoundly relevant and timelessly urgent.

As part of Hotel Eden Roc, Casa Epper is a sanctuary of art and tranquillity - the perfect setting for compelling exhibitions in a truly unique atmosphere.

From 6 June to 19 September 2025, in collaboration with the Scuola di Scultura in Peccia, we are proud to present the exhibition „Humankind and Environment", featuring the work of Hans-Peter Profunser.

As the exhibition unfolds, it evolves: new works will be added – created by Profunser’s own students.

A man who transforms sandstone into poetry, Profunser is an award-winning freelance artist and sculptor. He has been active at the Scuola di Scultura since 1999, and since the late 1980s, his work has been featured in over 100 solo and group exhibitions both in Switzerland and abroad.

Humankind and Environment": Two Phases, One Dialogue

This exhibition is not static – it unfolds over time, offering fresh perspectives and deepening the dialogue as new pieces are introduced.

Featured artists include Armin Böttinger, Heinz Brehm, Klaus Eichler, Thomas Hassler, Randolph Koller, Jürgen Möller, Kurt Müller, Marco Paniz, Yves Portenier, Berit Schmidt-Villnow, Sabine Seum, and Axel Svensson.

In the first phase, „Controversy", the fragile balance between human beings and the natural world is examined. The second phase, "The Destroyer", intensifies the narrative, drawing attention to the threat posed by human actions.

Reflection in the Garden of Casa Epper

Once the home and studio of renowned Swiss artists Ignaz and Mischa Epper, Casa Epper now serves as Hotel Eden Roc’s in-house museum – a place that not only exhibits art, but lives and breathes it.

Ignaz Epper, a key figure of Swiss Expressionism, was celebrated for his bold woodcuts and linocuts from the 1910s and 1920s. His wife Mischa, an accomplished artist in her own right, left behind a rich and meaningful artistic legacy.

Since 2020, the house has evolved into a vibrant cultural hub, deeply rooted in the artistic spirit of its founders and the creative scene of Ascona. It hosts rotating exhibitions of emerging artists and offers inspiring workshops, thought-provoking lectures, and engaging conversations about the world of imagination – all curated by our resident Art Butler.

Surrounded by a peaceful garden, Casa Epper invites visitors to pause, reflect, and unwind. Shaded spots offer space for reading, meditation, or even a leisurely game of boccia in a relaxed atmosphere.

Exhibition opening hours: daily from 9:00 h to 17:00 h
